Off topic: The black hair of the woman in this comic is accentuated with blue highlights. It seems to have been standard comics artistic practice for a long time. When I was young, even before learning to read I looked at color comics and wondered why the characters with dark hair had blue in it.

I particularly noticed that Superman had hair colored that way. I concluded that his hair WAS blue. Since he was from another planet with powers and abilities (and hair?) far beyond those of mortal men — why not special blue hair.

So whenever I drew and colored my hero, Superman, I made his hair blue. My Kindergarten teacher objected, and I tried to explain the obvious logic. She was an old lady (at least 50!) and did not comprehend at first — so I brought in a Superman comic book to show her.

Dear Miss Quinliven. She laughed and saw my point at last. It was one of the first times I realized that children could sometimes educate adults, if adults were willing to learn. (Not a lot of adults WERE willing … and still aren’t.)
