In my dotage, I share my years of deployed clinical experience providing nursing care to a host of ne’er-do-well’s and other assorted felons in one of our state prisons; just for fun stories and to be able to buy quality ethanol (Life’s too short to drink cheap beer/booze.). In this setting, I would be happy to have this power that Carol speaks of, to make some of the inmate’s choke on their Wonder Bread. Preferably not on my shift though, so I don’t have to do the paperwork.
There is no evidence that what they did lead to her death. But they believed it and got to wanting to kill others and so they kept from actually murdering anyone with this piffle. A nice study in several areas of human psychology.

The comedian & author Steve Allen wrote a short story “The Public Hating” which is a more in-depth exploration of this idea back in the 60s…
