A comic book writer I know once tried to deal with an overflow of junk mail by getting a rubber stamp that read “DECEASED, Return to sender.” He’d stamp it on unwanted mail and drop it in the box outside his workplace. Somehow, perhaps by accidentally returning a non-junk item that came from an aquaintance, word got out that he had died. Obituaries and tributes began to appear in the comics industry press. He finally had to write and distribute a letter explaining the facts. But even years later, at some convention or other, he’d have to address it all over with a fan startled to see him above ground.

Moral of the story…….people will fill a mystery with every kind of foolishness before looking hard for a banal truth.

I still get junk for people who must have moved out by 2010 or before. I send it back telling them that.
