You can travel all over the world, Carol, but the “passengers” in your mind and heart have a peculiar way of randomly wiggling their way up front to conscious thought. When that happens, it seems to always cause your eyes to leak a little, and perhaps affect the timbre of your voice, and for sure tweak a smile… all very random it seems. Enjoy the moments… and I raise my cup to Hoover! (…and to Maxwell, Gretchen, Fred, and their kind everywhere!) Be well.
I remember when your previous feline gave up the 9th ghost, the entire strip was a memorial for him (her?), back when Salon was worth reading. That was also a well written well told story. It’s hard to lose friends. Big hugs.
He simply moved from the world into your heart where he will stay as long as you live. When you pass, he will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge; so all is only temporary…
I’ve lost pets before but not ones I have been with for 18 years so I truly don’t know how you are feeling Ms Lay. Maybe just a little I do. Very sorry for your loss.
There’s no shame in missing a beloved pet. I’ve had quite a few in my life, and my cat, Bengali, has been a treasured member of the family since she came into my life as a young cat. I don’t know who had her as a kitten, but I’m glad she’s with me.
You will miss him forever, but just remember the good times and his friendship. Whether 2 legs or 4 legs, our kids are a big part of our lives, and cherish all the sweet memories.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It’s always hard when you lose a family member. We had to put down three of our babies plus a stray last year.

Some will say it’s “just” an animal, but, oh, how they get into your heart and stay.

Have reached an age where a new kitten might outlive both of us. Would have to have a (young) loving adoptive owner lined up if we want a new pet.

Cats and dogs attach to us in different ways. I have a cat again after a long period w/out. We are negotiating our relationship.

My condolences. I have a cat myself and live in dread of the day when we must part forever.
