In my house the lids are down to keep the dog from drinking and to keep 3 of the 5 cats from splashing the toilet water all over the floor. I keep 2 large stainless steel drinking bowls filled and cleaned daily and a cat drinking fountain and they would all gravitate to the toilet if the lids weren’t down.
