It was years ago that John Williams, composer of so much great movie music, became conductor of the Boston Pops. In honor of that event, the local classical music radio station one morning played the famous theme music from “Jaws”.

My sweet little cat Elsa, who had been rolling around on the bed displaying her beautiful blazing-white belly, suddenly jumped up and fearfully looked around the room in total terror. She had no idea what a shark is, but she recognized menace when she heard it.

Great music, John! Terrifying to man and beast.

“Wait, come a little closer, we can’t quite hear you, that’s right, just a little closer now, easy, ok NOW!” —- I think the one crying looks a little like Sherman.

Lio plays string instruments, specifically the violin and now the cello. I don’t know why…it just seems to fit his character, I guess. There’s something Victorian/errie about those instruments that I like. Also, I was 2nd violin in my Jr High orchestra, so maybe that’s it.

That’s another thing…clapping sharks…how do you draw that? So what I did was draw each shark in a different phase of the clap. This way, as your eye travels from shark to shark, there’s almost animated effect. It’s not perfect, but I think it sort of works. Yes, lots of thought goes into this gobbleygook called LIO.

Hmmm… lots of pantomime strips out there (Tall Tales, Hawk and Dove, Henry, Little King…) When they get together at the NCS convention, what do they talk about? ///// carcaradon carcharias what a cool name!
