Even a sturdy tower can be damaged by the determined and self-heedless assault of a Beach Bully. But he probably won’t be back for a second attempt!

Very smart, Lio. You didn’t need Charles Atlas for that bully.

Lio wasn’t protecting himself, or the castle. He was merely decorating the rock.

Real good going, Lio! I bet the bully will think twice about kicking over other kids’ castles now!

I once built a trap around my sand castle once, using some beach reeds (so that the surface looked like normal sand, but you’d fall thru if you stepped on it).

Y’know, I seem to recall Linus pulling a simliar stunt on Lucy once; didn’t break her foot or anything, but it was the same basic principal

Hahaha! I have to “laugh out loud” for this one…makes me miss my home (Hawaii)…

JohnDiFool: Nice, I used to build random sand traps along the shore as well…I think I was a bad kid growing up. Oops!

Some fun was had by techs who drew blood on kids and had chocolate pieces to give them. A doctor kept sweeping up most of them so the kids didn’t have enough. The techs filled the bowl with chocolate Ex-Lax (carefully giving the kids something else). I think it cured the doctor.

So the joke is that the bully kicks the castle and makes it taller?

No, the joke is that the bully kicked the castle and found out the hard way that there’s a rock inside it. You know, like when you build a snowman around a fire hydrant because you know someone is going to kick it over.

SherlockWatson, a fellow fan of Sergio Aragonés, I see… ;-)

This gag is very similar to one that Sergio drew decades ago in a Mad Magazine margin. Bully kicks kid’s small snowman, only to find that it’s built around a fire hydrant.

I actually did that once. I used the rock as a foundation for my poor sand castle skills and when some bully tried to kick it over he broke several bones in his foot. The best part was he got in trouble. The lifeguards took a pretty dim view on troublemakers, I guess.
