THen it probably does not taste that great although things are improving. (And I have a genuine gluten allergy unlike the fad diet dorks who lead to comments like Jagedlo’s and make people like me miserable.)
I thought it was funny when I noticed a bottle of gluten free vitamin pills. And the foods that have probably always been gluten free, but now advertise it.
Yes, yes, there is some tiny percentage of the populace that is genuinely allergic to gluten, and it’s good information for them. Like the notes you see on diet soda bottles directed to phenylketonurics, that the soda is free of phenylalanine.
I had a friend who was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in the 70’s. This was way before the advent of the internet and the thing I remember with clarity is the list of things he could eat was relatively small while the list of proscribed foods was immense! And the truly scary part was, just because a food WASN’T on the list, didn’t mean it was ‘safe’ – it just meant it hadn’t been tested for gluten, yet. This was back before the “labeling” of foods was anywhere close to being accurate or complete!
Visit the “Celiac Disease” website – you might be amazed at what has ‘gluten’ involved in its manufacture – I would consider it a “staple” in the Western diet! And, if you’ve EVER had contact with ANYONE who suffers from “gluten intolerance” you’ll appreciate that it’s no laughing matter – far from it, in fact!
“Gluten free” has become an advertising shill for trendy folk who wouldn’t know celiac disease from a cranial amputation. There are cases of products claiming to be “gluten free” that are not. And for the majority, there is no need to avoid it just “because.”
That said, the Old Witch may have found a weakness in Lio, who is a pretty trendy kid and way too thoughtful for his own good….
