I’ve gotten phone calls like that.

Back in the 60s I was on the phone and I could hear a noise like when the dollar amounts appear on “Jeopardy!”

Reminds me of, back when I was in college in PA, I rented a house with a few other students (one of whom was Iranian). We would get phone calls in the middle of the night, and couldn’t understand a word of what the caller was saying – so we knew to hand the phone to our Iranian housemate. They were speaking some form of Farsi, and didn’t realize the major time difference.
