I agree that Tanuki is taking this too seriously. There’s nothing wrong with floating in an inner tube.
As the old joke goes:
Elevators do smell different to small children and very short adults.
They could always bring a plastic Shovel & Bucket and dig out a Wading Pond for Tanuki.
Put it inside the Sand Castle’s courtyard and you are in business.
