Lola is right. If a Politician does too much “evil”, he/she is voted out the next time around. If he/she does too much “good” they are, again, voted out next time. So, Senator Irving is choosing the middle ground: a little evil balanced by a little good.
There once was a time when we DID vote for the politician, regardless of party… and the one elected would consider everyone to be the one he works for, not just what the “party” wants.
