Have you all heard the story of the cashier at the market on Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, halfway between two prestigious colleges? When a customer arrives at the express register with more items than indicated by the signage, they are asked, “Are you from MIT and can’t read or from Harvard and can’t count?”
