I think it was a Shoe comic strip, where they brought in a guy to paint the offices. The secretary leads him around to the various rooms, and says stuff like, “We want this room done in Arizona Sand, and this one done in Caffè Mocha, and this one done in Latte Cream. Do you think you can handle it?” He says, “Sure.” Next panel, the painter is at the paint store, and he says to the clerk, “Give me 5 gallons of brown.”
