In addition, back in the day when travel by horse WAS considered the norm (say, up till just after the First World War ended): well, for starters, there was no Social Security then; there were no minimum wage laws; and, there was no FDIC. What this meant was that you probably worked all hours for as little as your boss felt like paying; if you got Sunday off for church, you were lucky. And, if you lost your money in the bank, well then it was just too bad; you were stuck! A dollar a day was considered pretty darned good: “Another day, another dollar.” And so even if I COULD go back, I wouldn’t want to. Probably just as well! Not only that; but taking care of ANY animal is a big responsibility in itself. Puddles is obviously used to being an ONLY pet!

She’s lucky that wasn’t Marmaduke. He might have bitten off a leg.

Like I asked earlier, Lu, what’s wrong with just having a dog?
