My late wife and I have a son. Up until a few years ago I did his taxes when I did ours, then I saw it as the bad thing it was and made him do it. It is so much easier with the Computer programs than it used to be BUT you still have to do it. Our son finally did it last weekend, AND he is getting a refund. He should have filed months ago, he is lazy and almost 31 years old.
This is something they should teach in school… in economics or somewhere else..and how to GIVE CHANGE WITHOUT LOOKING AT A MACHINE, …. and how to pay bills, and cook food, and I don’t mean just the girls… and they should teach the girls automotive things, and even carpentry, which actually is just like sewing but with bigger stuff! … and how to use different tools, and I realize that you can learn all that on line…. but most kids just use the social sites!
As I noted in another comment, in a recent video Elizabeth Warren explained that it would be simple to have the IRS do everyone’s taxes in advance and just send out the forms for the taxpayers to review. You’d only have to fill out more tax forms if you found a problem in what the IRS sent you. So why don’t they do that now? Because tax preparation companies like TurboTax and H&R Block persuaded Congress (mostly the Republicans, but some Democrats as well) to forbid the IRS from doing it. Then there’s the fact that Congress (again primarily the Republicans) have badly gutted IRS funding, so they lack the personnel to do it. But both those problems could be easily fixed if people advocate loudly enough to do so (and don’t get distracted by dumb ideas like a regressive “flat tax”). The result would be a huge relief and cost saver for millions of taxpayers, as well as better funded government services.

Y’know, it turns out Frank and Nancy are some real Okay Boomers. No wonder they didn’t save any money for Brad or Luann to go to college!

Brad, just think of it as reassembling a car engine.
The instructions for that are written by the same people who write tax instructions.
