It has been Very Windy here today with low humidity. I hope I still have a house left Friday morning! (No kidding!) Our back yard faces a wetlands that a road cuts through…with teens going up and down it smoking_. I am hoping no-one sparks a fire! Anyway, if I’m not on later, it is because my house is a pile of ashes….not really, but one never knows… =-O And on that note, ’Nite all! ;)-————————————————————————————-“The husband was a teetotaller, there was no other woman, and the conduct complained of was that he had drifted into the habit of winding up every meal by “taking out his false teeth and hurling them at his wife.”(_A Case of Identity, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, 1859-1930

I’m beginning to wonder if Bernice is being set up by Dez to be the patsy who will take the blame for a crime ring.

    1. When Viper brought the bag for Dez, the first thing we suspected was that the bag contained drugs.2. Sun’s ferret is illegal in California, and even in the rest of the country where ferrets are legal, it’s unlikely that they would be allowed in a college dorm. Colleges tend to be very restrictive about pets in the dorm — rarely would anything beyond a fish be allowed.3. Now we find that Bernice is “passing messages” for Viper. To whom and why? Surely Viper would have a cell phone of her own and can send messages herself.4. Bernice is also “storing stuff” for Piro. Again, why? Is she Public Storage Inc.? Granted, if her roommate never moved in, she might have more available space in her room than usual, but on the other hand Dez must have shown up at least to hang the mask on the wall.

Bernice might be on track to get A’s in her classes but she’s going to have a hard time passing things like “common sense,” “self-protection,” and “not being a sucker.”

Dez is obviously one of “The Silents” from Dr. Who. It’s why Bernice is doing all that odd stuff, and since she’s not looking at Dez, she can’t remember anything about her.

So, Dez apparently has not shown up in her dorm for the day before or the first day of classes? Hmm. Seems like she (presuming Dez is a “she”) is either a) not particularly concerned about her courses, b) may be on some sort of Moony Uni extracurricular experience (Perhaps she signed up for a mini-study abroad experience that overlapped slightly with the start of the semester?), or c) there is some sort of weird scam afoot and there is no Dez, or d) maybe Sun, or Viper (or the mysterious Piro) is actually Dez, and this is some sort of weird game Dez is playing on Bernice. Of course there are other options, but the above four are my suggestions.

Today’s rendering of Sun looks like the alien character that Missi Pyle played in “Galaxy Quest”:

    Sun?

I’m sorry, but that nearly ear-to-ear grin is still too much of a stereotypical caricature for a satisfactory depiction of an Asian American.

-Snipes do exist-Yes, a marsh bird called a snipe does exist. But the term ‘snipe hunting’ also exists as a term that describes a type of activity, where newcomers are given impossible tasks to accomplish as a way of hazing them. And sometimes the term is applied to tricks that are pulled on one worker by another.-An apprentic painter is told to go to the storeroom for blue and red striped paint, for example.

I wonder if today’s Luann Again was deliberately picked to parallel Luann’s first day at Pitts State School. (It was dated 1986, but also signed ‘Greg 9-12’)-Luann is responding to questions (probably from Nancy) about what she learned in school; she says ‘nothin’. Nancy protests that you can’t spend that much time in lectures and so on and not learn anything, and Luann has a funny response…

The locus of the strip has never been said to be California. .This is just an assumption by some readers here. There as been a long air flight to Hollywood, long car trip to Las Vegas, etc. These don’t all fit California. .It is an imaginary place.Yes, it’s in the US, but it could be anywhere without snow. Probably in the Western States. .Time zone detail might limit that..But best imagine it in “Anyplace, USA”

You are right, the ‘snipe hunting’ referred to in this instance is the hunt for something imaginary, such as a left – handed screwdriver, skyhook, wood – grained paint, etc…

Or, in my high school days, the “brass magnet.” :-PPP

Frank and Nancy were of course trying to get Luann to think a bit more realistically about colleges – the chances of her getting into Julliard are about the same as the odds of Knute getting into the Sorbonne. If Luann had really felt a compelling desire to attend Moony, they might have been willing to make the financial sacrifice to help send her there, but given her lack of commitment to academics and her uncertainty of what to do for a major or a career, their urging her instead to attend the JC seems like sound advice in any case, quite apart from the cost savings.

"No, because Daniel’s was the voice of the car KITT. No this is a character referred to and seldom, if ever, heard. " ^Yes , because Daniel’s voice work there is the same as John Forsythe’s work (as How referred to) in Charlie’s Angels, and the point was on “the air of mystery”. No, in the technical sense, but yes in the sense that we were referring to, the general sense of “shadowy Macguffin”….

You know, GC is being really squirelly…had an entire paragraph all typed out as a reply to your post, and then, zapppp! it’s gone! Geez! Anyway, the gist of what I was typing was that our house temp is usually 73 as we have two industrial-size air-conditioners in our house. The electric company Really loves us both in the summer and in the winter (we have electric heat)! So, I’d say my favourite time of year is Autumn! (not too, too hot, and not too, too chilly, and not too much rain…yet! ;)

“They live near a beach. So at the very least it’s a coastal state.”

I’ve wondered about that. How do you know it’s a coastal state? If so, why aren’t they ever shown going to the beach? That would be awfully strange if they actually do live in SoCal. They are always shown at a pool, which is fine; kids do that here too, but they also go to the beach a lot.

Yes, I know what you mean! One day when I was living in Tucson, the temp hit 117! IIRC, the temp in Phoenix that same day was 122-3. It was so hot that the tarmac was getting too sticky to land planes in the Phoenix airport, so they have to be re-routed to the Tucson airport… =-O
