I’ve always loved books. I did not, however, like book reports. Book reports are a great way to turn a lot of kids of on reading. When it becomes chore, which they must to to keep from failing, the pleasure of reading can be extinguished early on and never rekindled. I say “a lot” of kids and “can be” because it didn’t happen that way for me. I detested doing the reports, with the rare exception of one for ENCYCLOPEDIA BROWN, because I had fun drawing him for the cover… but I still loved reading- for my own enjoyment.
If you can separate the two, you can avoid the lifelong feeling that books are boring.

Isn’t a book report made when you slam it shut real quick?
