    Everybody likes a compliment!

Er, ah, well almost, some are too uptight.

I think Boyd is pretty too. And Lila. But I didn’t know Mr Payne went “that way.” :D

All seriousness aside, the real issue isn’t sexism or PC or anything in between. It’s not knowing where the line is because the line is different for different people ~ even towards different people!

If the cute guy compliments your outfit, you might be flattered. if Mayor Filner does, you might be creeped out.

I try to assume the best intentions, although I still can’t figure out why a guy would like my dress. Did he want one for himself? Can someone explain it?

Meg is right. We have hundreds of cultures in this country (yea) and thousands of sub-cultures. I can’t keep up with what each considers wrong or right.

I agree with you, Charles. I’ve seen that happen, and it’s silly but taken seriously. I hope Drew doesn’t report that SHE’S offended by the office chat.

And I’ve had guys say “I wanted to compliment you on the dress/necklace/hairstyle/whatever but I’m afraid you’ll think I didn’t think you looked good on other days.”

It’s a tough row to hoe sometimes, I guess.

So what do you think of my dress today? :D

Meg: “You look nice in that dress” does not imply you look a mess in any other. It should not be considered offensive. On the other hand, “You would look nice without that dress” can be considers offensive in any context, including a nudist resort.
