Because I have an abnormal body shape. Pants come with a waist size of 38 or 40. I take a 39. So everything is either too tight to be comfortable or too loose to stay up. Same problem with the inseam as I need a 29 and most pants don’t go shorter than a 30. Shirts are the absolute worst though for badly fitting. I take a 54 in the shoulder, but shirts with that width go down below my knees because I’m not fat enough to fill the shirt out to get a normal fit. I could fit a second person in front of me in the shirt for it to fit properly.
I remember back in the old days when shirts came in different sleeve lengths. Now, if you want one with a neck size that fits you and a proper sleeve length you have to pay somebody 100 bucks for a shirt. Pants…I go for the 34/30 and have Ms. Lee at the mall put them in the 33 by 28 size. Costs me an extra $10 but I can buy them cheaper and they fit perfectly. She can probably fix the shirts but it would cost a lot more because of all the tailoring that would be needed for neck and sleeve. Just roll the sleeves and leave the neck loose. Makes the shirts less than ideal but who looks that close to someone 78 years old.
When wearing more formal clothing one should choose suspenders over a belt. Suspenders transfer the tension of keeping your trousers up onto your shoulders, and just hold them up. In contrast, a belt cinches your trouser waistband tighter, keeping the tension around your waist, and reducing the gap.
Belts are better suited for casual and work clothing.
