Republicans know — and many of them, including Trump on multiple occasions — that “we the people of the United States” DO NOT WANT THEM.
They have admitted that the reason they don’t want mail in ballots, or anything that makes voting easier, is because increased turnout reduces their chances of winning. As Trump, and several other Republicans, have admitted, they know that voting by mail would mean no Republican could be elected president ever again.
This is why they try to suppress the vote. They used to deny they are doing it and try to hide it, but now they are doing it brazenly, out in the open. Trump says he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and not lose a vote; well, he is standing in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shooting our democracy and doesn’t care about losing votes because he wants to make voting too difficult for anyone to do it.
If you don’t know, then you aren’t paying attention. The GOP is the party of the elite and they care not even a gnats fart for the welfare of mere voters. They did this to increase the chances that their choice of state supreme court justice would be elected. No other reason. Well, that and I think some of them like harming people.
We’ve voted by mail for some time, cheaper, far less fraud, paper ballots to do ACCURATE recounts if needed, and turns out more voters, which Republicans hate.
Voting by mail would help the USPS, which is due to run out of operating funds in June and may get a small bailout (compared to the must not fail banks and corporations) to keep going. Unless rethugicans decide to kill the mail instead of the usual illegal invalidation of ballots.
Rump claimed there were millions of fraudulent votes in the 2016 election. He was probably right. But I don’t think he mentioned how large his party’s contribution to the efforts then and up to and including now were and continue to be.
Mail ballots are corrupt, in my opinion," he said. But reporters pointed out that Trump has voted by mail, by absentee ballot, in his adopted state of Florida. His response: “Sure, I can vote by mail. Because I’m allowed to. That’s called out of state. You know why I voted? Because I happened to be in the White House and I won’t be able to go to Florida to vote.”
Can his HYPOCRISY, and the HYPOCRISY of the entire Republican Party be more blatant??
Wisconsin is one of those cases where the Republicans are 100% to blame, with the gerrymandered Republican legislature, and courts packed by Republicans, overriding the Democratic governor. But then I recall that Mike DeWine® in Ohio rescheduled their primary, against strong resistance.
People should not be having to die once again to have a say in government. My ancestors did that in the 18th century during the American Revolution so that we would not have to.
Shame on the hypocritical cronyism in the Wisconsin Republican LEADERSHIP and their allies in their state courts and the U.S. Supreme Court (where it took only a majority of one to risk lives and maybe kill people) as those Justices remotely voted.
In some nations now people who willingly spread the coronavirus or place enough people at risk (or kill enough, depending on the nation) can be jailed or even charged with a capital offense. Right now, that is really making sense.
Trump votes via mail-in vote, but you’re not supposed to… of course, Trump evades the draft due to fake bone spurs – and now he’s your Commander In Chief…
In Missouri, there is no absentee or early voting without either a doctor’s note or a sworn oath that you cannot vote in person on the day of the election. The first Obama election, many people anticipated a huge voter turnout and we disliked the idea of standing in line forever. There were a few scheduled early/absentee polling places, so I went to one. And had to stand in line for forever minus epsilon. Then, in manageable crowds, the voters were allowed into the inner sanctum. Where we testified UNDER OATH that we would not be able to vote in person on the day of the election itself. Each one of us knew we were lying (under oath), the election judge administering the oath knew each of us were lying (under oath), and then we went ahead and voted. (Spoiler alert: I voted for Obama.) That was and remains the only crime I’ve ever commited in my life—never even smoked pot or gotten a speeding ticket! But, when it comes to lying under oath, I now have something in common with Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh, Jeff Sessions, Wilbur Ross, and far too many politicians to mention. Do I regret it? No, no more than I would have regretted attempting to integrate a Southern segregated lunch counter back in the 60’s. Some laws just pretty much beg to be broken!

And when they do get there, they find that the republicans put up a paper shredder instead of a ballot box.

And the military has been voting by mail for years. I did it as early as 1971 while I was in basic training.

Because if everyone voted, and all votes were counted, Republicans would lose.
That’s why Republicans want to destroy the Post Office, so you can’t vote by mail.

What bothers me even more is that there’s nothing to restrain them from blatant criminal voter suppression. They have skewed the justice system.

The GOP has several reasons to oppose voting by mail
1) Activists can’t harass voters
2) Can’t close voting sites at the last minute,
3) Can’t move polling sites and keep it a secret.
4) Can’t change voting times or close early.
5) Can’t supply abundant voting machines in white areas and not enough in minority precincts.
6) Both Oregon and Washington vote exclusively by mail and neither is overrun with right-wing GOP buffoons in office.

Because people that can’t get to the polls easily won’t be able to vote. The bigger the turnout, the worse it will be for them.
