I once walked across an active runway. It was in Gibraltar, and the only runway reaches across the entire peninsula, and you have to walk across it to get from the city to the terminal. There’s also a road that crosses it. You really want to obey the “Do not walk” sign there.

Doesn’t matter where or how far you go, the delays and wait time is horrendous, not including the increased delay at the baggage carousel!
