I once encountered a mock diary with entries on snow. The “diarist” had recently moved north from a perpetually sunny part of the country and began rhapsodically describing his new experiences with seasonal changes, then every week became less and less enchanted with the snow and cold, and finally ended up snarling and spitting over it.
I just raked the front yard for the first time this season. I had to clear it so I could run the wiring for my decorations. The back yard is this weekend, weather willing. Most of my trees are oak, so they all drop at the same time. Last year a big storm blew the leaves away; this year’s were all from the wrong direction. Damn that neighbor’s fence!
I’m with Monty… I would be fine with snow if it weren’t for the shoveling. And it also means keeping the motorcycle in the garage until the roads and parking lots clear up… that takes a lot of the fun out of it.
We had our first snow weeks ago. Then, the rain washed it away and the trees have dumped their leaves everywhere. I may not like the shovel, but I hate the rake even more.

The first snow is coming Saturday and I have to go out Saturday. Well I have the jeep so shouldn’t be too bad.

“The First Snowfall Of The Winter” is a great Bing Crosby song. It’s kind of forgotten now.

I guess I liked snow when I was a kid.
Now, as an Old Fart, I don’t know why….

This comic has a point. Notice that in all the winter songs sung around Christmas, in the lyrics you NEVER hear the word “shovel”?
