My mother took Zinc lozenges and lost her sense of taste and smell, for weeks. It’s not an uncommon side effect, and it could have been worse:
Zinc — especially in lozenge form — also has side effects, including nausea or a bad taste in the mouth. Many people who used zinc nasal sprays suffered a permanent loss of smell. … In addition, large amounts of zinc are toxic and can cause copper deficiency, anemia and damage to the nervous system.
Purell® is a registered trade name, just like Kleenex® or Zipper®. And there’s a generic name as well (“hand sanitizer”), which gets used about as often as “facial tissue” or “slide fastener”.
—And don’t forget to burn all of the clothes Monty was wearing, including that silly Johnny Carson-prop hat, the polka-dot boxers, the socks, and even the shoes!
Not that the Purell bath or zinc suppository will help. But at least our hypochondriac will have a sense of satisfaction to go along with his sense of victimhood….

Why not take a shower/bath? I do like Cold-Eze – they work for me – and no, I’m not a paid endorser.
