With just the two of us, we don’t set up a tree. As a kid, my (Jewish) wife didn’t have a tree at all, but they had one of those fake cardboard fireplaces and put presents around that. So I found some plastic wrap printed with a brick pattern, wrapped it around the console our TV sits on, and put a drawn logs/fire on it. A few tweaks and it looks fine, and has the bonus that a lazy person can leave it in place all winter.

If your fondue pot gets hot enough to burn the cheese, there’s something wrong with it.

I love Pilsner, he’s so cute, and is smarter than his “owner.”

We have one of those artificial fireplace DVDs as well. I swear you can sometimes feel the heat anyway. The mind is a weird thing…

Very realistic Yule log – it even has smoke!

A common mistake, Moondog—back behind the TV is where we all have our fondue heating up.

A “major chicken fast food enterprise” is displaying a “console” with a built-in “chicken warmer”. It may be a joke or it could be the kind of disruptive technology that ends civilization as we know it.

The artificial burning log TV scene plus carols is pretty traditional on at least one of the big TV stations in my area. And, yes, I typically watch it for a while late night/early Christmas morning….
