Cultural blah blah blah. Such nonsense.

My wife asked me the other day why the Redskins had to change their name to Commanders but the Chiefs are still the Chiefs.

What exactly is the problem with “cultural appropriation”, anyway? I’ve never understood that. If Adam and Eve discovered the circle and square, is it somehow or other evil for Gentiles to use them? Are we prohibited from enjoying fireworks if we’re not Chinese? Must we give up the number zero if we’re not Indian, or jazz if we’re not African, or skiing if we’re not Scandinavian, or surfing if we’re not Polynesian? Sushi if we’re not Japanese? Pizza if we’re not Italian? Democracy if we’re not Greek?

The world is a splendidly variegated place, full of wonderful, imaginative people, and it’s just arrogant to think that only white Anglo-Saxon Americans can possibly come up with good ideas. If we see something cool we like from another culture, celebrate it and use it! Heck, that’s the way the entire English language developed!

Nobody should have a monopoly on, or veto power over, good HUMAN ideas.

So what is “sampling?”

For billionaires everything is appropriate.

So, an appropriate name for Sedgwick’s horse would be Rocky?

I teach in an online school. It’s great, but one of the disadvantages is no snow days. On the other hand, we don’t have to make up snow days in June…

This is where the term “cultural appropriation” belongs, in the comics. The best defense against the woke mob is ridicule.

Kids doing snow dances are exempt. The desire for snow days is universal and not restricted to a particular culture (although the Polynesian kids’ snow dances would probably go unanswered by the local gods).

I grew up in a mixed Jewish/Christian neighborhood. We enjoyed the days off from school on each other’s holidays. If you had polled us, we would have voted strongly in favor of appropriating each other’s cultures.

Not that the Little Snot cares about “cultural appropriation” (whatever that may or may not mean), but his desire for a “Snow Day” off from school needs a better basis than a dance….
