Gas, check oil, wash windshield, and ask if there will be anything else, SIR? Only 38 years ago. But I got a dime for every quart of oil I sold. Heard the term “short stick?”
Watch the Three Stooges episode (I believe it’s Violent is the word for Curly) where they give “super service” to the three new college professors at Mildew College. Super Service!!!
Tsk, tsk, Lewreader - “short sticking” someone to sell them an unnecessary quart of oil could have caused engine problems when you overfilled the crankcase. Shame on you!
My Dad trained me in service station duties. Start gas pump on slow, clean glass all the way around, check air in tires, vacuum floorboards, check under the hood; battery connections, fan belts, oil level, DO NOT TOUCH RADIATOR CAP (safety thing). In that order. If you were good, you could do all that by the time the pump stopped.
This was when regular leaded gas was 25 cents a gallon.

Three gallons, please. And sneeze into the tires while you’re at it.

Word, it was started in 1907 or 08 and was popular in the thirties. The guy who publishes it now is a descendant of the original artist.
