I often wish we knew when these strips first appeared. In this case I’d guess the late ‘50s, when Detroit’s insistence on bigger and bigger cars lead to an invasion of small cars from VW, Fiat, Renault, Saab, Volvo, and several lesser companies.
I was thinking of that time just yesterday when I saw a new Fiat on a U.S. highway for the first time in probably 50 years.

Is this in England? the lady’s car has the steering wheel on the right side. And M & J’s car (as Glenn has pointed out) has two steering wheels.
