Film makers used to cut and paste without realizing that some day the film might be shown where someone could read the scripts – with hilarious or a puzzled audience!
And then there was the tourist in Berlin that couldn’t find his car after his shopping expedition.Police asked him if he made a note of where he parked?Sure – right here – EinbahnStrasse(one way street)
I have seen this strip before. I believe Jeff originally said “Chinaman” or something like that. But of course that would not be P.C. But North Korea is our enemy for now. So some one changed it.
I imagine when this strip was drawn the character was Chinese. North Korea didn’t exist until 1945, and this piece looks older than that. Plus no one ever made jokes about digging a hole deep enough to come out in Korea!
Thanks for explaining who Steve Brodie was. And of course no one is laughing about North Korea these days. Though maybe Jeff pulling the guys hair explains why the leaders there are insane. Maybe one day the name of James Caesar Petrillo will come up in the strip.

Yow! Does anybody in 2012 even look at this strip to see stuff like this?

P. S. it’s no more “racist” than the way Al Capp pictures Southern Americans!
