    A horse has to be trained to jump from an early age. You can’t expect just any riding horse to jump.

    Not too early. Bones need to get some strength to take the brunt of the force of the landing. I for one can not and will not use spurs. That’s how I discovered my splay-footedness is a major problem, plus painful to the horse.

    First he mounted the horse on the wrong side. Second, you don’t need spurs for jumping. You never jab a horse with spurs, they are used to nudge the horse gently usually while driving cattle. I have ridden horses all my life and never use them except for a wall hanger in my den.
