I actually told someone that when they were looking for my Dad for missing jury duty about six months after his death. But I just gave the address and number without letting them know it was a cemetery.
My sister in law, who has been dead for 6 years, still gets mail (which comes to my house, as my husband was administrator of her estate) to sell her hearing aids, investment plans, etc.
She has also been notified that she has won a trip to Florida to check out a time share, full expenses paid.
I get robo collection calls almost daily for someone with my same last name. They call everyone in the phone book with the same last name, hoping to find the debtor or hoping to scare someone into paying a debt they don’t owe.
I don’t know if it’s true or not (I doubt it is) but a story I heard of involved a deceased woman and her credit card company. They were trying to get a payment on a zero balance. The relative they were talking to kept telling them that trying to get a payment on a zero was absolutely absurd and the person on the account was deceased. They kept insisting to be paid and they wanted a forwarding address. Exasperated, the relative gave them the address of the cemetery, plot number and all.
When my Mother died, all of her bills were paid by Medicare and Insurance. Several months later, a bill from the hospital came rolling in…I knew all the bills had been paid…so I put “Deceased” on the envelope and returned it to the sender. After a few months of the bills rolling in regular as clockwork, I finally wrote Forward to North Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, MS. That was the last bill I ever got from them!!!

Jeff must be talking to someone from the IRS – Uncle Joe must have checkout without forking over the death tax!

And who did Uncle Joe vote for?

Oh, yes. Some things never change. Today, that caller would try to bully Jeff into paying the debt, even though he has no liability.

Cemetery custodians are getting fed up over the mail being forewarded to deceased.

The IRS will dig him up and then take him to court.
