This one’s art looks old enough to be “pre-rock-n-roll” – my guess is the original wording was that the rats dance to “swing”, or something similar…

I strongly doubt that “Rock and Roll” were the words in this strip. By the time R&R came along, Al Smith was doing the strip and signing it, I’m pretty sure.
