    Steve Brodie was an actor who claimed that he jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge.

    Steve Brodie in 1886 claimed to have jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge and survived. Some doubted he did, but he became a celebrity and it gained him a successful saloon.

    Ahhh….another case of a name becoming a word. In the eras of silent and early sound cinema, a brodie was a comic fall taken for the camera. To this day no one knows if Brodie really took that plunge. What we DO know is his claim gave him more than his allotted 15 minutes of fame.
