Ever look up Pierre S. De Beaumont. (See the copyright.) It’s not a gag. He was an engineer and founder of the Brookstone chain. His father was a French nobleman and his mother was Countess De Beaumont. Pierre was legally Count Wolston Pierre Stuart de Beaumont. The Countess was married to Bud Fischer for a short time but never legally divorced, so she inherited the rights to the strip. Al Smith was signing onto the strips as artist while she owned it. Pierre inherited from his mother, and he died in 2010, hence his name on the 1993 copyright here. Presumably, one of his heirs or his estate owns it now. He has two step-daughters.

And that kid grew up to be US Congressman from New Yorks Third District. He should keep wearing the propellor beanie.
