About 60 years ago, I had heard about a special test number called ring-back, which when dialed and hung-up will cause the phone to start ringing. Later that night at dinner, Dad told us that earlier when he came home, he could hear the phone ringing out in the driveway, but could not unlock the back door in time to get in and answer it.
