Good morning, Vagabonds. As a newcomer to the village, I’m sorry the population has been reduced. I’m surprised that Marg. is not a member; she’s always 1st to comment o so many of the comics.
A few hours I spoke to my new friend (via Facebook) Omer in Turkey. He figured out how to get into GoComics and get into Benitin y Eneas.Unfortunately, he doesn’t understand the nuances of the comics well, but I told him all he needs to do is to tell us about himself and his life in Turkey (or Turkiye) even if he doesn’t understand the context of what we’re all saying.
Hi everybody..Arye, tell him to get on board all are wellcome here..Grey old day here. The Caledonia County Fair has started, I hope they have a good run..Later..\\//_
Well, we got a little rain yesterday evening.Frankly, we miss Marg. She was one of our charter members and a pillar of the community here for a long time. Here’s the link to Today’s Annie .
Good Morning. I normally do not comment but have been a longtime fan. At first I read all the comments on the comics I read, but soon narrowed it down to just the comics with friendly commentors. I was especially drawn to Margueritem, Leakysqueaky712, Wndrwthg, and Shirttail Slim on the old Brenda Star site (miss that one). I lurked there as this group evolved and became the sock puppets and I really enjoyed the move to this site and the new name of Vagabonds. I am also saddened that Marg and Leaky are no longer visiting the Villiage but am happy that there are still people in residence here. Keep writing Slim, I love your stories about AZ. My first assignment out of basic was at Ft. Huachuca and I really loved the 2 years I spent there.
Good morning, Everybody!..Good to see so many of you visiting today!
Yes, we all miss Marg and Leaky……they really added a lot of fun to the day. But, I enjoy visiting with all of our Village, and hearing about your stories, Slim.
It’s 73 already today, with our temp heading up to 89. We’ve had 10 days over 90 degrees this summer. (ugh)...Good luck to our East Coast families! That storm promises to pack a big wallop!
Lost power early AM as a storm moved in west to east across the great lakes, back to normal now . Sunday “Irene” is supose to scrap NY, SOOO see what happens from that.
@cos619:I was wondering who that was peekinf ’round the corner now and then. You must bw the one in that little cottage on the edge of the Village? I often wondered who it was, and why we never saw anybody there. Hope you will be a more active member of our small community. Welcome to the VV!
The avatar:1978, July. Location: Screwauger canyou, a tributary of the North Fork of the Middle Fork of the American River. This was camp #1. A large sheet of six-mil plastic and some 1/8th inch nylon cord (and a sharp Bowie knife) can be turned into an excellent shelter.Elevatiom about 4-5000 feet. There were still large patches of snow on the mountain above. Water so cold it made my teeth ache, and had the best tasting trout I’ve ever eaten!About two weeks of complete soliture. Went in with a 98 lb pack load. There was an old dirt road going down a long ridge that I followed for a quarter-mile or so before leaving it to hike down into the canyon. The slope got steeper and steeper until I had to prop my backpack against a tree, climb down to fing another tree I could lean it against, go back up and bring the load (good word) down to the next tree. I repeated the process many times, even had to let it down on a cord one time when I reached a narrow stream choked with undergrowth so thick I had to make my way over it instead of through it. By then my knees were getting rubbery.I got a crossed the stream and climbed up the opposite slope to a clear area. I was now a couple hundred yards or so above the bottom of Screwauger. I rested for a few minutes and ate a granola bar, then divided my load and took half the rest of the way down and rested before going back up and getting the rest. Found a sandy spot big enough and put down my ground cloth and sleeping bag.Made a cup of coffee, had a smoke, and was in bed about sundown.
About the above. It was actually late the last couple days of june when I went in.Also, that was not the heaviest load I’d ever packed in. My heaviest was a over a hubdred pounds but, that had been in 1961, some 17 years earlier.

@ Arye Uygur:….. Tell your friend he will be warmly welcomed to the Village. I know both Omar and the Vagabonds will learn from each other.
