Good morning, Vagabonds. I have no news but thought I’d drop in to say “Hi” anyway.

THE GENESIS OF THE VAGABONDSI’m feelin’ a bit retro tonight. Thinking about our roots.I remember where we came from a year or so ago. It was the Brenda Starr strip. That’s where we first got our start. There were those who (understandably) thought we talked to each other too much, and not enough comments on the strip. In those days we were the SOCKPUPPETS.Some people were rather aggressive with their comments about us, even to the point of flagging some of us whose replys to them they didn’t like. I got flagged a couple of times for my answers. Nothing out of line about them, somebody just didn’t like being talked back to. The worst of them got kicked odff gocomics for his behavior. So some of us moved here. Marg coined the name Vagabonds. I called us a Village, and here we are. Some of the original cadre have left us (/). New people have joined us. I hope more will come (tell your friends about this great site) :-))

Slim, you left out another very important part of the story. We were also criticized by some of the Annie readers. I think it was after Annie was cancelled on June 13, 2010 that someone (Marg or ML?) suggested we start meeting here. Then when Brenda Starr was cancelled, many of those readers went to Fox Trot in Espanol. Those readers continued to comment on Brenda, Phantom, Judge Parker, and Rex Morgan. Some of the Brenda Starr readers started rereading the Brenda archives, which led me to suggest that the Annie fans do the same with Annie. Then GoComics completely removed the Brenda Starr archives but left the Annie archives up. As it stands now, we have Brenda and Annie fans here at Vagabond Village, former Brenda and Phantom fans at Fox Trot and Annie fans at the Annie 2002 site.

Good morning, Villagers…….Well, we didn’t make it to the big book sale in Billings. I got side tracked into having an MRI of my right breast because my surgeon took my case to the Tumor Review Board, (or something like that). They recommended checking out the “good” side because this is supposedly an aggressive cancer, and could be in this side as well. So, they had to do something ASAP because once I start chemo (Tuesday), they would not want to do the second mastectomy..Well…………good news…….everything came out clear! Whew! Also, my echo cardiogram that I did last week was also great! So, I had a really good day yesterday, even without the book sale!

Great news, Rita. My prayers will still be with you as you start chemo. (I think you’ve been on the receiving end of a couple of miracles so far already!)

I remember the sockpuppets and the move here to the village. I used to be a lurker, rarely commenting. That has sure changed here!

I am watching a movie right now, that came before “The Island of Doctor Moreau”. It was banned in places because ofit’s disturbing content. Richard Arlen…..Charles Laughton…..Bela Lugosi.Alan Ladd and Buster Crabbe were in it, too. The female lead was Leila Hyams.Should be easy to find. :-))

I, too remember JAD, and the problems he created. There were so many times that I would post some comment, and then have him tell me I was wrong, and then proceed to tell me what it should have been. Most of the time, I was just making a “cute” comment about the ’toon, and was making a joke myself. I guess he had his “sense” of humor removed!

For MontanaLady…..I remember. I did not like his attitude, and used a lot of saecasm to get him P.O.ed, which of course was my intention. Nobody bad-mouiths me, or my friends. like that without a retaliation.Like the way you’re headed, health-wise. You just keep on doing like i told you to. “Get Well”!!. -))
