DO YOU HAVE A PLACE? WHERE IS IT?There’s a place i go when I feel that need to be somewhere alone,A place where though I hold no title, I feel is my very own,It’s off the road and over a ridge, a secret hidden dellWhere a soft warm breeze and natures aroma cast a quiet peaceful spell. There’s a trickle of water that whispers and gurgles it’s way down a gravelly bed,And a grand old oak that casta the shade with massive arms out-spread.There’s a carpet of moss, all green and soft, beside that little streamWhere one might lie and and doze, maybe conjur up a pleasant dream.Yes, there is a place I go when I feel that need to be somewhere alone, And I’ll never show it to any one because I need it for my very own,

    Good morning, Villagers.

Did your parents take you to movies as kids that you were too young to understand? In the days before films had warning labels, in the 40s and 50s, my parents took me to movies rather than pay for a sitter.

I remember 2 of them (in black and white) although I don’t remember the titles or the actors’ names. perhaps the film canisters are no longer in existence.

    1) A woman has just killed her sister, but the victim’s child sees the murderer’s shadow on a flight of steps. The child is with a psychologist and is interviewed through a one-way mirroe. In one scene, the child’s aunt (the murderer) is viewing the interview on the other side of the mirror. When the child reaches a point that may compromise her aunt, the aunt, who is smoking a cigarette, “accidentally” burns the hand of the person who is with her, causing that person to scream and thus interupts the session. In the end, the aunt is about to kill the child who sees her shadow on the steps…

    2) A recovered alcoholic is a volunteer to counsel other recovered alcoholics who are about to return to drinking. In this case he’s assigned to counsel a woman and that upsets his wife. In one scene he’s drinking a glass of water ata bar and someone passes him and says disparingly “Ugh, pure gin!.”

Does anyone remember seeing these movies?

Oh, another movie which as a kid I did not understand and only understood years later: A teenager needs herbirth cert in order to get a summer job. Her parents tell her wher eto find it. The teenager sees a document showing that her sisiter was adopted. She later brings it up. The adoptee wants to meet her birth mother and a meeting is set up. At the time of the arranged meeting, the birth mother’s friends decide to play cards at the birth mother’s home. The birth mother has to meet her daughter outside her home, aomething that saddens her daughter. As a kid I always thought that adoptees were orphans whose parents had died and I didn’t understand why the birth mother couldn’t see her daughter inside her home. The term “illegitimiate” or “out of wedlock” was not then in my vocabulary.

    Does anyone remember THAT film?

Slim, I love that piece. Makes me want to be outdoors in a quiet place of my own.

Arye, sorry I don’t recognize any of your movies either. Thank you to Rita for your faith in me. My “expertise” comes from watching a bunch of old movies, asking M (who really is the movie trivia buff – so much more than me) and IMDb.
