Well, time did pass and the memory did fade,…For I found myself taken with a fair young maid.,And laughter and play in the summer sun…Were much more a young man’s idea of fun.A year went by, and two, and then three… Before I went back to have a look see.January it was, mostly cold and bleak…And, not far from a place called Shirttail Creek.>>>>>>…‘58 was an interesting year. but after I started working at the plywood mill, it became fun. Phil, my friend, and I would go over to the resorts on weekends. Fun, fun, fun. I’d sometimes dance with two gals at the same time. The resort at the west end of blue lake was my favorite daytime place In the evening we’d go over to the Clear Lake resorts.….I did a lot of different jobs at the plywood mill. Drove a forklift a few times. For a while I drove an old army dump truck. Boss asked me if I knew how to drive the truck, and of course I said yes. Climbed up into it and drove it out behind the log pile, out of sight of the mill. (The log pile was 15-20n feet high and about 200 yards long.) I learned how it worked in a few minutes, then went to work. Drove it for a few months, picking up unusable wood and duppmping it behind the mill where it was burned. There was a fire that varied in size out there all summer. …Fourth of July is Willits big holiday. Rodeo and a carnivaland the big dance at the meeting room in the park Phil and I POed a lot of guys at the dance. We took off with the queen of the rodeo and one of her maids. and “forgot” to bring them back. Nobody tried to start anything, just a lot of grumbling. Sprin of 1960, the mill shut down. Phil took off somewhere back east, and I found another friend to hang out with. Then he, Bob, got laid off, In June we left Willits and went up to willow creek and got jobs in a veneer plant.>>>>>>I didn’t get much sleep last night, so I’m outa here until the P.M. I’ll pick up the story in Willow Creek. See ya. .

Morning, Vagabonds!Slim – Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

I worked for four hours at the house yesterday evening before it got too dark to continue. We’re coming along with the siding on the house and I put the first coat of stain on the front door.

Good afternoon, everyone. Today, I did my laundry for the 1st time since returning to New York. In Miami the washing machine room is just steps away from my apartment door, but here it’s outside my building a full block away. Just as I put my laundry in the dryer it began to rain heavily. I waited about 1/2 an hour and when the rain let up a little I took my shopping cart full of laundry and RAN to my building. how nice to spend the rest of the afternoon at home!
