Now, Karma…. You must maintain your own Zen cool! Yes, even if you have an itchy chin; in fact, especially if you have an itch! Focus!

Very nice, but not Zen. Karma has, in fact, blown it. You let things come, you let them go right through and out again. Itchy chins or whatever.

On Parris Island we were not allowed to break the position of attention as those notorious sand fleas climbed up our gym shorts and bit our tender parts. Poor Karma, your chin?

Obviously I’d never be good at this. I’ll spare you the details.

    Justin did. See right margin:

…and of course Karma — quick to rage, quick to joy, and obsessed with balance.

Reminds me of an Onion article about a yoga competition, with a picture of the winner thrusting his fist into the air and shouting “I am the serenest!’

To win, you must not contest. Dziva’s smirk shows that she, too, was losing. You still have much to… ooh, something shiny!

Quibbling about details. Enforced silent meditation and koans are just two ways to show the student how impossible it is to achieve enlightenment by his own efforts.

Zen - if you are hungry, eat; if you are tired, nap; if you itch, scratch. So actually Karma out-Zen-ed Dziva

Chief Sitting Duck does all that without Zen. Chief also knows already that Chief can not enlighten Chief. So point of Zen is what?

Todays strip reminds me of a story I’ve been meaning to share. Awhile back Justin did a longer story about the Garden of Eden. Eve needs to get organized and wants to buy a computer. Of course they end up in the Apple store, but the devil persuades her to buy a PC. Of course Eve ends up having to call tech support, which is manned by Mythtickle denizens of the Hindu pantheon.

I finally get to my story. In the last panel one of the Hindu dieties answers the phone ‘Namaste’. Now I had heard this word before, but wasnt quite sure what it meant. So I used the mighty internet and found out it’s a common greeting used in the sub-continent. It has many meanings, based on the culture of the person using it. I like the one that goes like this “Your spirit and my spirit are ONE.” Very Waterbrother-ish.

Somehow I ended up at this time of my life in a very rural part of Kentucky. The only person from that part of the world is our doctor, from Pakistan. I couldn’t wait to try it on him. He almost fell over the first time I used it. I’ve been going to see him for several years now but we never talked. Ever since I used ‘Namaste’ on him the first time he always takes time to chat, he’s a real great guy. Now I try it whenever I meet someone from that area. They always light up and smile, it really helps to connect with someone from another culture that you might not otherwise talk to.

So anyway, thanks Justin, for teaching me something new! Mythtickle is doing it’s part to bring us closer together.

As I say to my doctor, “Namaste, y’all!”
