I think that a couple of the newer series, the crew of the features ship has had to deal with planet bound politicians. In Star Wars, the two most dangerous characters are politicians, Palpatine and Jar Jar Binks.
TOS could be awfully pompous and preachy, but maybe we tend to forget how groundbreaking it was for the ’60s, a time of growing social change (not necessarily all for the better, but certainly all impactful)….
ppl forget how powerful the censor board was in those days in this anything goes era, not to mention how powerful the company exec’s were. If both had their way TOS would have been crewed by all white American males for example…
