My money sense still extends into the past. When I first bought paperbacks, the standard fiction ones were $0.75 (Washington Square editions, $0.45). I browse now (if I can find a physical bookstore) and Yikes! $7.99! As AtomivDog pointed out, it’s proportional to old prices according to Standard of Living rises, but still… it jars me.
What’s on the globes? Is that Gondwanaland, Granted, 1955 may seem old, but not THAT OLD !!!-No, but there’s French Equatorial Africa, Dutch East indies, East Pakistan, and the Dominion of Canada. Also, the Pacific shipping lanes West Coast gateway show San Francisco, rather than is Los Angeles today.

Darn it—now the “It’s a small world after all” song is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the night …
