Just read his biography on Wikipedia. Us comic book fans owe Al an immense debt of gratitude.

Those who worked to keep comics going during the days when comics were criticized as being unworthy reading for children, for teaching them nothing, and as being waste of children’s time are appreciated by the readers who were children in those days. Comics have a place in my fondest memories of my childhood, of my older siblings pointing at the character and reading out loud what they were saying, remembering those times as quality time spent with my siblings and giving me the eagerness to learn to read and to keep reading. Thank you for showing through your work, whether you realized it then or not, that comics are a valuable source of reading. RIP Al.

Not to mention he did work for years at DC Comics, especially on Superman and the Superboy titles. He co-created Supergirl and several of the original members of the ‘Legion of Super Heroes’.

Thank you for the tribute, Guy. Remember his artwork in general and one example was Action Comics #252, May 1959 of Superman/Supergirl.

Your strips keep getting better and better…paying tribute to those who have gone on to Glory…and those still making a difference today.

RIP Al. I hate to be a cynic, But, I wonder how many cartoonists would pay tributes to these people? However, I’m not surprised that Guy would. Way to go Guy!

I am so very sorry to hear that Phil Everly passed away!I learned to sing & harmonize from my Everly Brotherscollection! I have been in many bands since the early60’s & I would much rather sing harmonies than leads, but in a four man group, we all had to sing lead!
