Aunt Fritzi: Hi, grandpa...I always think of you serving in world war 2 on "pearl harbor day"...You didn't even wait! You just enlisted the next day! I brought extra com-pany today!
Caption: The greatest generation remembered today.
Kudos to Guy Gilchrist for once again being at the head of the line when it comes to remembering Pearl Harbor Day! My Uncle Gabe – in the picture at the left – joined up BEFORE Pearl Harbor. In those days, if you went into the service BEFORE you were drafted – you had some leeway in choosing what type of service you wanted to be trained for – and he was trained for radar – which – at that time – was top secret. My Uncle Loren was on a troop transport, headed toward Pearl Harbor, when they learned about the attack on Pearl Harbor. Uncle Loren arrived in time to be part of the mopping up operation, and helped take care of a lot of the wounded. What would be great would be to see some of the Fritzi-Phil-Nancy and Sluggo strips which were published during World War II. I remember Nancy and Sluggo helping to publicize the availability of War Bonds!
I found out two months ago, my Bio. professor was on the Battleship Nevada at Pearl Harbor and served on her through the whole war. He is 92 now and looking good, lives in MN. I graduated class of 1980. I called him on Veterans Day, our first talk in 35 years.
My uncle was there also. One of the rare individuals to be on both eastern and western theaters. Came home with a couple purple hearts and Silver Star (from Pearl Harbor). Never talked about it. Only found out about his awards after he died.
starting with the Korean war on forward.-Thanks for remembering the veterans of our “forgotten war.” Few Americans remember we were involved, but the South Koreans are very thankful.
Ummmm, Gaunt?“though the tv series lasted almost twice as long as the actual war "?Korean war June 1950-July 1953 (3 years)MASH: Sept. 1972-March 1983 (11 years)
Did you mean twice as long as ANOTHER war? Because it sure wasn’t Korea.

Very beautiful, thank you, Guy…

I did initially think that ‘John’ was Fritzie’s former husband. I don’t know how she ended up single and Nancy’s ‘Aunt’.
That said, don’t forget our female veterans! Good job, Guy!

Such a great entry today, I’ll even ignore the fact that (given Fritzi’s true age), we’re seriously doing the Time Warp again. Always remember!
