…And mindless praise from paid syncophants is better how, exactly? ;-)
“I do think it’s important for a new strip (which in many ways this is) to not have the first comment new readers see, through the unhelpful featured comment feature, be one from fans of the old artist who don’t want people to enjoy this.”
I am fifty-six and never liked Nancy one bit. Some posted one of the new strips on Twitter and I fell in love in an instant! This new creator is brilliant!
I haven’t seen such a blatant display of fellowship by @M. MITCHELL MARMEL and RESIDENT IDIOT since my 12 year old daughter let me beat her at Connect Four last week. I’ve just upgraded your account M. MITCHELL to premium and I’ve extended your premium account RESIDENT IDIOT by a year. Check your emails!
Honestly, this is brilliant. It’s somewhat funny, and very clever in concept. Good visual humor, and simple, clean colors. But it’s also cute, nostalgic, and relaxing – it feels much more like the ideal that people praised Gilchrist for than Gilchrist ever churned out. It covers a wide range of good emotion. It also diversifies away from the latest strip’s overreliance on technology jokes.
I was just starting to like this strip. Then we get this. I don’t see how panel three is any sort of punchline. The whole thing could be done in one panel. It still wouldn’t be funny. Instant classic, huh?
I’m outta here. The month-long trial I decided on to decide on whether the strip is worth reading is over…and the answer came to me in an unexpected flash when I wasn’t even thinking about it today. I’ve leaving because….it’s not Nancy.
And this is simple and straightforward. For a looong time, I got to know Nancy and the other characters in the strip because of the way Guy Gilchrist wrote the jokes and drew the strip. I liked the bright (some may call them garish) colors and the whole “world” that Nancy and Sluggo inhabited for years.
And then what happened? Nancy ended and a NEW strip began. The setting, the sense of humor, the art style—-it is ALL different except for the names of the main characters. If they were drawn as different people with different names, I think I’d be very open to reading what truly is an entirely new strip. But there is NOTHING except the drawings and the held-over names.
And that simply does not work. That’s the problem we’ve all been arguing over since the new strip started. I’ll check it again in six months or so to see how it goes….although I suspect it’ll still be the same thing then as I’m describing now.
For those of you who love it now—hang in there and enjoy it. For anyone who shares my ideas, “put it on the shelf” and come back in 6 months and check it out then.
I got a GoComics.com account (or, I guess, rediscovered it, since my email address was already in the system) specifically to chime in on how much I adore the new Nancy. And apparently we can get paid for our sycophancy, too? Sign me up! Olivia, you can find me on Venmo!

A joke you can only accomplish in something like a comic.

There Nance……. That’s the whole point. I also love to lay in bed when that noise is happening. You fall asleep on the chair you may fall down.

This is what you’d get if you mixed “Sam’s Strip” with “Zippy.”

Nothing quite like the sound of rain on a metal roof.

To bad we can’t “see” the sound of rains since we’re not in a comic strip…or are we?
