This will sound strange, but it’s true. When we were stationed (with the Air Force) in Alabama twenty years ago, the wife of a fellow officer was a nurse at a community hospital where a woman looking for a suitable name for her son in a random magazine chose this very word—pajama! Of course, she put her own spin on her wonderful selection by accenting the first syllable and pronouncing it paj’ a muh. Wonder what ever happened to the poor fellow..?
