I’m old enough to remember those Thunderbirds, Supercar, etc. shows. Even at the tender young age of 8 I could tell they were the dumbest, sappiest shows this side of Gumby. And Gumby, at least involved some fairly painstaking animation effects.
Also FireballXL5 was filmed in B&W.
Live action versions included UFO and Space:1999!
