The latest nonsense calls I get are from scammers saying they are from Medicare needing to know if the stripe at the bottom of my card is red or blue, when I ask why they need to know, they launch into some convoluted tale telling me that I’m missing out on benefits or that my card is invalid. I laugh and hang up and block the number.
The IRS communicates primarily by U.S. Mail. They are VERY big on written records and you should be, too. ANYONE can SAY they are from the IRS, Nigeria or Mars. Ask for name, identification and callback number, then call the IRS for verification. Do NOT give personal information over the phone.
