“Mauve” as the name of a color didn’t exist in the Renaissance.

It was eponymously “discovered” from a compound first synthesized in the 19th century.

Mauveine, also known as anilinepurple and Perkin’s mauve, wasone of the first synthetic dyes.It was discovered serendipitouslyby William Henry Perkin in 1856while he was attempting tosynthesise the phytochemicalquinine for the treatment ofmalaria.[Wikipedia]
