Teacher: We don't have time for you to read all of that, Danae... Can you just give us the highlights of your summer vacation? Danae: Hmm... I suppose I could skip past the storm drain being a wormhole portal to a twin planet on the opposite side of the sun and get right to the action of nearly being eaten by dinosaurs... Teacher: Uh-h-h- huh... Danae: Aw, c'mon! It's all true!! Teacher: I'm sure it is to you, dear. OK, Jody...it's your turn. Jody: I ate a bug on the 4th of July.

I told you that your teacher won’t believe you, Danae.

“Ate a bug onthe 4th of July.” How exciting!

One should never stifle a child’s imagination. If the teacher doesn’t believe Danae’s story, she should still listen rather than stop a tale that could provide a creative outlet for an imaginative mind.

I was there! It’s all true!!!
watcha about 15 years ago
cleokaya - I do agree about stifling a child’s imagination, but having one kid in class rambling on about all her imaginative adventures is probably stifling all the other kids. Teacher should direct the kids imagination in a more constructive manner.

Poor Danae….

Poor Danae, it’s so fustrating when you work hard at something you usually wouldn’t bother with only to be ignored.

She should have brought Captain Eddy to back up her story.

@BC 13: But wouldn’t that take all day?
EarlWash about 15 years ago
Hey, go for it Danae. Some day you should become a terrific politician!

I still say half of those pages are blank.

watcha - The teacher already directed Danae to give her the highlights, so Danae should have the opportunity to do just that. Once finished the teacher should have then said something like “That is interesting and imaginative, perhaps you have a future in creating fantasy novels.”

…or perhaps a future in writing comic strips.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Wiley writes much of this out of personal experience :-) :-) :-)

DevXlll If she tried to read that report to the class, it would take all week. Since Capt. Eddy would only be there to back up her story, I’m sure he could give the abridged version.

See: the real problem with lies: nobody believes you when you tell the truth.
Not that anyone would believe Danae anyway…
Varnes about 15 years ago
Why would the class believe Captain Eddy? Nobody else does. I agree with grazer, I want to know more about Jody…
carmy about 15 years ago
The teacher should have let Danae read at least some of the story. I bet her classmates would have enjoyed it.
treered about 15 years ago
if you write it, they won’t listen
kirbey about 15 years ago
Bug trumps wormhole ! bummer…
GROG Premium Member about 15 years ago
More like write it but they won’t read…as opposed to build it and they will come.

Danae should make lemon out of this lemonade. Put the summer vacation report into book form and look for a publisher.
Maybe this is how Piers Anthony got his start…

I still want to hear about the bug also - what kind WAS it? How big? Crunchy?
wndrwrthg: Quayle, Spiro Agnew… The Wonder Years.
jsprat about 15 years ago
AK, and she could illustrate the book and sell it as a comic! Oh, that’s been done…
4deerinmyyard about 15 years ago
Spiro who? Ba-dum-bum.
Doncha miss Quayle? Always good for a laugh.
