Lars: Hi, Danae...what brings you out here? Danae: Hey, Lars...just updating my Facebook page and tweeting. Lars: Excellent! But why out here instead of at home? Danae: My dad says it's a dangerous waste of time and brain cells. Lars: Dangerous? How so? Danae: He thinks it's a conspiracy by the ones who created social networking to turn everyone into empty-headed zombies so they can enslave us and rule the world. Pretty silly, eh? Danae: I said, pretty silly, eh, Lars? Lars: What? Um...yeah...silly. Whoa, look at the time! Gotta run!

@pbarnrob–
I still have a T-shirt that reads, “Visit Earth In The 80’s– Off-Season Rates Now Apply”
I like the sentiment. The shirt itself hasn’t fit since the 80’s (damned shrinkage!)
memoryinuse almost 14 years ago
all my clothes shrunk , too, especially around the waist.

Lars, you may have met your match. Danae’s dad is a sharp one.
@ x-Tech: I believe the answer is, Kevin knows, where Kevin is an entity who knows nothin’ about nothin’.

Kfaatz - that reminds me of the difference between a generalist and a specialist. One knows less and less about more and more until (s)he knows nothing about everything, the other knows more and more about less and less until (s)he knows everything about nothing. I leave it as an exercise for the reader to determine which is which.

Let the revolution begin. I update my facebook page for no one.

Chikuku: the role of social networking (facebook, text messaging, etc.) in the Tunisian and Egyptian revolutions has been somewhat over-emphasized by the US media and government, perhaps because they are the only area in which the US can be said to have been involved in the events at all. Reporters working in-country say Al Jazeera played a much bigger role, just by interviewing the leaders of the demonstrations and beaming their words to the Egyptian people (remember, most Egyptians don’t have cell phones or computers, but nearly all Egyptians have access to a TV set).

Puh-leeze! The only thing bigger than man’s idea of his own self-importance is his actual lack of any importance at all… We’re all rats in a maze, some of us just enjoy less cheese than others…
